KUALA LUMPUR, May 15, 2025AirAsia X is poised to acquire AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia Aviation Group, consolidating short- and long-haul operations under a unified brand. The acquisition, valued at 6.8 billion ringgit ($1.6 billion), aims to streamline operations and expand route networks. 

This strategic move follows shareholder approvals and is expected to finalize by May 30, 2025, pending court and regulatory clearances. The consolidation will integrate AirAsia's affiliates in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia, creating a comprehensive low-cost carrier network. 

The merger is anticipated to enhance operational efficiency, offering a seamless travel experience across various regions. It also positions Kuala Lumpur International Airport as a significant global aviation hub, aligning with AirAsia's expansion strategy.
